This post has languished too long so let me say one thing: I like Goldwater and his style. Although Goldwater got a little fuzzy at times (especially at the end of his life), I've always had a place in my heart for the feisty guy. I suppose the fact that I was born and raised in Goldwater Country (Orange County, California) has a bit to do with it.

Another thought.
In his biography of Goldwater, Robert Alan Goldberg quotes Russell Kirk concerning 'The Conscience of a Conservative': "If one million people would read this book, it would change the world."
