Message: I don't know much about economics, so I thought I would seek some information here. What do counterrevolutionaries think about the income tax? Is this good or bad? And the progressive income tax? Is the income tax part of the democratic society that we live in? I think the American income tax was added to the Constitution in 1917, a time when our society was being democratized more and more. If we didn't have the income tax, how should the government obtain revenues?

Message: The thought that the government owns or at least controls everything is at odds with the counterrevolutionary spirit. A progressive income tax on the scale we have now tends to make government a partner in everything everybody does and so destroyd the relative autonomy of individuals and other institutions. So my view is that it's bad. The financial demands of the government should be reduced and they should be satisfied by means that require less state intervention in social life (you can't have a tax on net income unless the state knows everything about everybody).

Message: Why is it that virtually all counterrevolutionary web sites of which I am aware address issues such as race and gender, but not economics? This is an issue that I believe we have overlooked.
The Communist Manifesto lists 10 pillars that it demands as statutory changes. The second is, "A heavy progressive or graduated income tax." And of course throughout the rest of communist literature one finds lots of economic opinions. Surely we can match the communists by developing our own economic proposals.
At counterrevolution.net there are articles such as "Anti-Feminism," "Anti-Inclusiveness FAQ," and "Conservatism FAQ." In order to save your thoughts above and to elaborate on them, I would like to see an article on counterrevolutionary economics, maybe on the income tax specifically, stating why the tax, like feminism, is bad and what counterrevolutionaries propose to replace the tax. Which would be best for our ideological program? Tarrifs? A sales tax?

Message: I agree economics is important, but other people talk about it a lot so it seems to make more sense to pitch in where the right-wing case isn't being made very effectively. At some point maybe I will add something about taxation and other economic issues.

Message: I would recommend reading "Government Financing in a Free Society" by Ayn Rand, which can be found in the "Virtue of Selfishness" collection of her writings. :o)
