 Subject: What kind of Roman Catholic is Mel Gibson?

This is just a simple question; in all the stories printed about Mel Gibson and his new movie, "The Passion of the Christ", I've heard Mel Gibson referred to as a "traditionalist" Catholic, and I've heard that he has some sort of disagreements with the Vatican. Just what is he; an orthodox Roman Catholic who favours the Tridentine Mass and dislikes Vatican II; a sedevacantist, or what? I haven't read any clear statements of what exactly he believes, and to what extent he is in conflict with the Vatican. If anyone knows, I'm interested, thanks.

No-one seems to know -- people try to interpret various indications but the conclusion isn't obvious.

Thank you Scipio. Alas, I don't speak any German, so apart from the direct Mel Gibson quotes, I can't understand the rest of it (and translation software is still notoriously bad, so I don't want to try any of it on this). Can you translate the blog entry? (Or someone else who's fluent in German?) Thanks.
