Any comments on my human rights page? Hello All! Any comments on my human rights page, www.human-rights.f2s.com? It's fairly new, and explores somewhat untravelled areas, so any thoughts would be very helpful! Jim Kalb |

Excellent Its brilliant, expecially your own declaration. If you ever run for office, you have my vote. |

Re: Excellent Now that's a comment I like, even though hard-hitting criticisms are what I suppose I should be looking for. Incidentally, there's a document called the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam that I think I'd like to link to because (as I understand it) it discusses human rights from a perspective that gives Islam primacy. Unfortunately I can't find it on the web. Do you know anything about it? Jim Kalb |

Re: Any comments on my human rights page? Your declaration of Human Rights is a nice piece. A couple of thoughts: A good idea would be to subtitle each article with "Freedom from Social Engineering" or the like. It would help organize it and state a clear purpose for each article. Article 20 needs to have a clause along the lines of "Each association shall have the right to determine its own membership in accodance with its aims, customs, principles, and bylaws" Article 22 -- I think it needs to be broken up into 2 or 3 separate provisions. Another issue would have to deal with non-compliance. I would favor setting up an international commitee that would rate each nation according to compliance: 1. In full compliance 2. In partial compliance 3. In substantial noncompliance 4. In total noncompliance Each nation not found in full compliance could have its priviledges under international law reduced (such as diplomatic immunity, international waters and airspace.) Re: Any comments on my human rights page? Thanks for the suggestions. I agree about 20. The provision you suggest would be a natural development of the prohibition of forced association. I will think about your suggestions for reformatting. In the abstract it's a good idea. One problem is that I tried to keep my version as close as possible to the orginal UDHR, and reformatting would reduce the apparent similarity. A formal international scheme of sanctions against violators would I think go against the general spirit of the revised declaration. As it says in the intro: Quote: Thanks again! Jim Kalb |

Link to the Cairo Declaration Here's a link to the English translation of the Cairo Declaration if you are still looking for it. www1.umn.edu/humanrts/ins...ation.html It's seems to rely on the Shari'ah pretty heavily. This link is from the University of Minnesota Human Rights Library which has a comprehensive selection of documents and treaties. Edited by: JasonEubanks at: 4/26/01 1:33:14 pm |

Re: Any comments on my human rights page? Thanks for the reference! I looked for it a few months ago and found nothing, just a few dead links. Jim Kalb |
